Nicki has done an excellant job with this book. There are so many grey areas surrounding this amazing womans life, and these have been addressed with a number of hypothesis where other authors have just left them to the imagination. A valuable book for anyone interested in Brigantia, Cartimandua, or the relationship the Brigantian kingdom had with the Romans.
I had high hopes for this book, as I am very interested in the Brigantes. Unfortunately, this book does justice to neither the ancient British tribe nor their queen, the main subject of the book. It was quickly apparent that the author was unaware of the latest scholarship on the religions of ancient Britain, in particular the works of Ronald Hutton. The references to modern pop culture and neo-paganism did not illuminate the subject, but rather obscured it. I found the book to be very amateurish overall - it could have been written by any college student interested in "the Celts" using Wikipedia and a couple of books by the likes of Anne Ross and Miranda Green. If you're serious about the subject, don't waste your time and money on this one.
