This is a book about friendship first, HIV second. For those of us who lived through losing friends and acquaintances during the 80s and 90s, this book was one of the few acknowledgments about what it felt like to be in that place. Grateful to Mr. Winick for writing and drawing the truth of that time.
Judd's book on his friendship with Pedro and journey from someone completely ignorant of the realities of AIDS/HIV to someone taking on a mission to educate others is simply a beautiful story. It's a great way to help teens understand the realities of AIDS/HIV in particular but unprotected sex in general. Wonderful in so many ways.
I was concerned when I realized that Pedro and Me was in comic book format. However, it took me only minutes until I found myself lost in the story and repeatedly teary-eyed. Though funny at times, this was no comic. To me, it was primarily a love story between two friends that lasted until death and beyond. It is not often that we get to observe, much less experience, this type of committed brotherly love. I found it very moving, and it still haunts me. I was an ardent watcher of Real World San Francisco, however, so I can't know what reading the book would be like for those who didn't "live" with Pedro and Judd for 6 months.
This book is so much yes. I want to hug everybody in it.
I absolutely loved this book. It is insightful, clear, and poignant. I met Pedro once, and instantly respected and loved him. Judd Winick writes of truth and love. This is one of the few books I have ever that actually brought me to tears.

I loved the whole concept of how the story was told and the story itself is very moving and uplifting.
This is a book that I believe anyone should read. It is educational as well as an emotional read. Anyone who wants a quick good read should purchase this book.
