The author uses interesting stories to illustrate the obsessive nature of some of the most innovative scientists, however, he lost me each time he went on a long tangent about specific, esoteric data.
One of the best books I've read recently. It sent me on a search for Dunn's other writings. Dunn is not an "up-and-coming" popularizer, but an accomplished popularizer, a clear thinker, and a compelling writer.
This book is everything! Dr. Dunn masterfully brings you into the world that are the biological sciences. I can't say enough about this book. I was privileged to hear him speak about the book. A great mind indeed!
I'm not a scientist and don't usually read non-fiction, but I really liked this book. Dunn describes our need to know and name things in an entertaining style as he leads us on a journey from microbes to the cosmos. Be sure to read the footnotes!
Wonderful, an overview on biology that encompasses history, present and future.Think that everyone interested in biology should read it.
